Trust in clergy slips in poll


Trust in members of the clergy is sliding, but it appears related to overall negativity about a number of professions seen through the lens of economic roles.

A Gallup poll done in November shows that honesty and ethics ratings among clergy have slipped six percent since 2008, from 56 percent of respondents to 50 percent of respondents.

The 50 percent level of trust still par outstrips other survey professions, most notably bankers (19 percent) plus Congress and stockbrokers (9 percent). The largest rise in the poll came for police officers, up to a 63 percent confidence rating.
