Become Aware, Deny the World and Follow God

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world”

How easily we fall into addictions! No matter the form, whether it be our working (to have more stuff), or drugs (to ease our minds from the realities of the world), or something simple as television (where we spend countless hours ignoring God and His Word.)

What’s the core issue here? What is the origin of all addiction? The answer is pride. As described in I John 2:16,  pride will manifest itself in one of three ways – “…lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life..”

Why should a Christian be keenly aware of these three things?  Because the enemy will seduce you with one of these three things causing you to turn your eyes away from the Lover of your soul. Be careful of these three things. Remember, that if you are walking closely with Jesus, you will be constantly under attack from the enemy.

Read the quote below and determine if it can be applied to you. Become aware, deny the world, follow God. It is the only pathway to peace.

The TV is my shepherd, my spiritual life shall want,

It makes me to sit down and do nothing for the cause of Christ.

It demandeth my spare time.

It restoreth my desire for the things of the world.

It keepeth me from studying the truth of God’s Word.

It leadeth me in the path of failure to attend God’s house.

Yea, though I live to be a hundred, I will fear no rental;

My “Telly” is with me, its sound and vision comfort me.

It prepareth a program for me, even in the presence of visitors.

Its volume shall be full.

Surely comedy and commercials shall follow me all the days of my life,

And I will dwell in spiritual poverty forever.

    Great post. I wonder how many churches would be willing to post that psalm on their bulletin board?
