Listen to St Paul…and ask yourself if you can say the same.
Paul surveyed the members of the council with a steady gaze, and then said his piece: “Friends, I’ve lived with a clear conscience before God all my life, up to this very moment.” (Acts 23:1-2, MSG)
How is this possible? Well again, Paul gives the answer.
“Believe me; I do my level best to keep a clear conscience before God and my neighbors in everything I do. (Acts 24:16, MSG)
Paul does his part but God also does his part.
Now that the worst is over, we’re pleased we can report that we’ve come out of this with conscience and faith intact, and can face the world—and even more importantly, face you with our heads held high. But it wasn’t by any fancy footwork on our part. It was God who kept us focused on him, uncompromised. Don’t try to read between the lines or look for hidden meanings in this letter. We’re writing plain, unembellished truth, hoping that you’ll now see the whole picture as well as you saw some of the details. We want you to be as proud of us as we are of you when we stand together before our Master Jesus (2 Corinthians 1:12-14, MSG)
Prayer- Lord, help us keep a clear conscience before you so that when people throw mud at us none of it will stick. For Christ’s sake, Amen (From 1 Peter 3:16, MSG)
