Doesn’t it sometimes seem that we are stumbling backwards while trying to go forward? While I was bemoaning this the other day, my friend caught me with these words: “Arrows go forward because they first are drawn backwards. ”Now this was a new thought to me and I considered my life’s journey under those conditions.
Backwards ⇒ Forwards
A business partnership broke up ⇒ That sent my writing career in motion
A car accident ⇒ God miraculously gave us a new vehicle
Several surgeries ⇒ Times of rest and restoration
My husband diagnosed with cancer ⇒ Our marriage became more loving than ever
One writing opportunity ended ⇒ Radio and TV opportunities arose
Of course there is a time to push forward and stop backwards looking. Just see what God told his people in Deuteronomy 1:6
The Lord our God said to us at Horeb, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain.
But just for the moment, stop seeing your life as a failure and ponder how God brought you forward by first putting you in backwards circumstances.
Prayer – Lord, may our every backward moment bring us into forward gear with you. Amen
