Blandly Bland

There are a lot of foods with little texture or taste on their own. We get our enjoyment from them by adding sauces and spices to increase their flavor.

Tofu, zucchini, and shrimp come immediately to mind. We add stuff to make them taste like something.

Our lives are like that, don’t you think? Without the excitement of troubles and trials and stresses, they would be as an unrippled sea, boring and bland, worthy of smooth sailing all the time in every way. No storms to test our valor. No trials to discover our depth and strength.

Life would seem interminably long, boring beyond belief and not worth living. Our high spots happen as we face difficulties, trials, and troubles, for then in those deepest times, we find the Christ ever faithful.

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into diver’s temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.  But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. (James 1:2-4, KJV)

Prayer- Give us grace Lord to accept our trials with your promises in mind. Help us face them with joy in Christ. Amen.
