Bugles and Shofars

I was first introduced to a shofar when in Israel. My roommate purchased one and the next day woke me with its noise at 6 am.

Did you know that a shofar is a musical instrument generally made from a ram’s horn and used for Jewish religious purposes?

And did you know that both the shofar and the bugle have no pitch-altering devices? Pitch control happens only as the player varies their ‘embouchure’ or application of their mouth to the instrument.

When our mouths are applied to our words, what comes out? Is it the hate mongering so prevalent in our society today? Is it an ‘I know better than you’ judgmental attitude? Or is it the love of Jesus?

Prayer- Lord, keep back thy servants also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over us: then shall we be upright, and we shall be innocent from the great transgression. Let the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts; be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, our strength, and our redeemer (from Psalm 110:13-14, KJV). Amen.
