Mind you, I hadn’t actually seen any live thing, but I sure didn’t want to, either. I took drastic measures just in case I did. I spent a small fortune at the hardware store, buying up things like noise makers that bothered critters.
I am well armed, so well- armed. They dare not show their faces (or even their tails) anywhere around here. I sleep better at night, knowing I’ve done everything possible to prevent an invasion here.
Then I wondered if I worked that hard to protect my spiritual life. Here is that protection, for your house and mine.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. (James 5:16)
Pray without ceasing. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, the word of God. (Ephesians 6:17)
And finally…
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most- High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day. (Psalm 91:1-16)
