We could ask if the bridge is too low or the vehicles too high. The truth is both. You’ will find this famous bridge in Durham, North Carolina. It was built in the 1940’s to the standards of the time, height eleven feet, eight inches.
But times changed and now the safe clearance measurement is fourteen feet. Over the last ten or so years, almost 150 vehicles ripped off their roofs trying to pass through the bridge. Three people died. Since the death rate is ‘so low’ raising the bridge is not a concern!
Friends, there are multiple warning signs. More than enough to make a difference to those who insist on driving through. Yet people don’t pay attention to the signs. Why is that?
What else can we do if no one read the signs, not just on bridges but in life and in faith?
Pay attention and always be on your guard, looking out for one another. If your brother sins or misses the mark, solemnly tell him so and reprove him, and if he feels sorry for having sinned, forgive him. (Luke 17:3, AMPC)
What signs passed you by? Warning! Collision ahead with can opener effects!
Prayer- Lord we have eyes to see yet sometimes the vision misses our brain. Help us, Lord in our failings. Amen.
