Careful What You Wish For

Do you ever wonder what it is like to be in the spotlight?  One of my friends wanted to get a book contract and she succeeded. Now, however, she is under constant pressure to produce books faster than she ever did. Her joy in her writing has diminished while her production must increase. Be careful what you wish for.

We yearn for time alone and then when we get it, sometimes through the loss of a friend or spouse, we yearn for their company once more.

We struggle to lose that last ten pounds only to find it is too hard to stay at that weight, too expensive to buy a new wardrobe, too time-consuming to take clothes in.

We wish for a better job, but when we get it we miss the old one.

We say silly and reckless things we don’t really mean.

But God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?” “It is,” he said. “And I’m so angry I wish I were dead.” (Jonah 4:9, NIV)

And yet, Our God still says things like this in the face of our own foolishness.

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. (John 15:7, NIV)

Prayer- Lord we love you even though sometimes it sounds like we don’t…sorry. Amen.
