Chariot Race

Surely over the holidays, you watched a replay of the movie Ben Hur which is most often remembered for its chariot race. This time I took note of the scene following when Caesar awards the hero Ben Hur for winning the race.

He places a wreath on his head, turns him to the crowd and pronounces him to be their god…”for the time being.”

Isn’t that how we live now?

Someone wins an election-we treat them as our god, for the time being.

Someone wins an award-we regard them as our god, for the time being.

Someone has a baby- we regard them as our god for the time being.

Someone _________ and we regard them as our god, for the time being.

Our world is made up of little gods- gods that have accomplished something –for the time being.

Let that never overtake what Christ did for the human race…

Christ died for our sins and rose from the dead, conquering death for us all, not just for the time being but forever and ever.

Prayer- Thank you Christ, for winning more than a temporary race…winning for the human race, forever and ever. Amen.
