Check Your Head

Traveling is one of my favorite things to do.  I love to fly, but there is one part of the airport trip that I always dread–walking through security

With all of the new rules and regulations, I have seen the Transportation Security Administration do everything from dump passenger’s undergarments on the floor to make children and grandmas cry.  While I am thankful that we have security to defend our homeland, I have found myself in more than one airport thinking, “what are you doing to me?”

During a recent trip near the border, I made every attempt to dress plainly so that no snaps or pockets would raise concern as I walked through airport security.  I was quite pleased with myself after emerging from the body scanner unscathed.  All was going fine until I was whisked to the side by an agent with a thick Hispanic accent.  She demanded I stand on the mat marked with two yellow footprints and put my hands to my side.  I followed her instructions and believed I was home free until she began pointing at my head.  My hair was tousled in a loose bun and it obviously captured her attention.  The only words I heard her say were, “I nid to chick yo hid.”  I apologized for my inability to understand her.  She repeated her best English then suddenly shoved her fingers through the top of my hair.  I immediately realized she needed to “check my head.”  I got tickled as I thought to myself, “only a Texan like me could have big enough hair to be accused of concealing a weapon in their bun!”  She wasn’t overly appreciative of my giggling and continued poking her fingers through my hair.  Finally satisfied that I wasn’t hiding weapons in my “do,” she let me go.  I laughed in disbelief all the way to my gate when God reminded me of an important lesson through this experience.  Our head is often the place where “suspicious” activity takes place.

When our minds are attacked by the enemy of our soul, we must know how to respond.  Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, “we war not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) Sphere.”  Satan knows how to play with each of our minds, so we must know how to fight back with the weapons God has given us.  How do we do it?

First, we recognize that Satan is a liar.  In John 8:44, Jesus exposed Satan as the father of lies and of all that is false.  There is nothing true in him. When those nagging, insecure and fear- based thoughts become strongholds in your mind, remember the truth.  Go to God’s Word and see if your thoughts line up with what His Word says.  If not, rest assured, they are not of God and replace the lies with His truths.  Write His truths on a notecard and repeat them to yourself until your feelings line up with what God’s Word says.  John 8: 31-32 reminds us that if we abide in God’s Word, we will know THE truth…and the truth, does indeed, set us free.

Another strategy we can use to combat the lies of the enemy is praise.   When we give God praise, the enemy runs.   The next time you feel the downward pull of the lies you often believe, begin to praise God out loud.  Thank Him for His Word.  Thank Him for His goodness.  Thank Him that you are His child and nothing can remove you from His hands.  Don’t rely on your feelings before you praise.  When we are tortured by the enemy, we don’t usually “feel” like praising, but that is the time we must press in and do what is right.  So go ahead–praise on purpose!

We must also pray.  Ask God to crown you with the “helmet of Salvation” each day so that what touches your head is only what God would allow.  We receive thousands of messages every day.  Allow God to show you which ones you should believe so that the truth remains in you.

Since the battle for our soul begins in the mind, we must constantly “check our head.”  What thoughts do you believe today?  If you are like me, there are only certain things I want touching my head, so ask God to help you hear His voice only. Then, stay in His Word, believe what you read and thank Him for His protection.  What “touches our head” has a profound effect on our lives.

Life is not a fun fare, Life is a warfare, to the world it is the survival of the fittess but for the redemn of the Lord it is a triumph of Faith. That was why the apostle paul declear his final mission statement in the book of the bible by saying I have fought the Good fight of faith.so the principal determinant factor of any believer victory on the earth is faith.
