Claudius and Valentine

As the story goes, Roman Emperor Claudius did not want his soldiers to worry about anything but winning battles so he prohibited them from marrying.

On the other hand, church leaders wanted people to marry within their faith. They believed in the sanctity of marriage and one husband, one wife.

Valentine took it upon himself to secretly marry many a young couple, in spite of Claudius’ edict.

Valentine actually laid down his life for Christian marriages. He was imprisoned, beaten, stoned and then decapitated because of his belief in the sanctity of Christian marriage.

What are you willing to do to save yours?

Prayer – Lord, in this day of polygamy, affairs, divorce, let us live our lives like Valentine and honor our marriages as an example of what you stand for. In Christ. Amen
