Deer-Like

I’m not quite used to my new glasses, so when a deer head appeared in the bottom corner of the living room window; I wiggled the frames about on my nose and took another look. Yep, it was a deer all right and she brought a friend with her.

They trailed sedately between the houses. Once they reached the open green space across the way, they stopped to look and listen. They repeated this action every ten feet or so. Odd, I thought. They have a clear path. Why are they stopping now? Apparently, they decided to keep their eyes open no matter what.

Think of the times God gave us clear directions and we bolted into obedience. All went well, until we got blind-sided by a person or circumstance. If we’d kept our eyes on God, and listened to godly friends, we’d never have lost our bearings in those ’open’ spaces. Let us never take for granted that we ‘know it all.’

Proverbs 3:1, 2- [Don’t Assume You Know It All] Good friend, don't forget all I've taught you; take to heart my commands. They'll help you live a long, long time, a long life lived full and well (MSG).

Proverbs 28:26- If you think you know it all, you're a fool for sure; real survivors learn wisdom from others (MSG).

Prayer: God, when we act like we know it all, blind side us in our green spaces. Amen.
