In Bible times, the host sat in the middle of a U-shaped table, with guests on either side.
People showed friendship by personally serving food to a person from the main dish.
The Bible lists Jesus’ disciples in Matthew 10:2-4, Mark 3:16-19, Luke 6:14-16 and Acts 1:3. The order varies with these exceptions. Peter is always first and surprise, surprise, Judas is always named last.
In Matthew 16, Jesus asked the disciples, “Who do you say I am?” and Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
Note that Jesus wasn’t building his church on Peter but on Peter’s statement. “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
