Electric Toothbrushes

Am I the only one that’s done this? I’m brushing away on my teeth and suddenly realize I’m using my electric toothbrush and scrubbing away, full force, as if it were the old manual one I just tossed out. (Don’t tell my kids, okay!)

The truth is that in ourselves we are pretty pathetic.

Romans 7:18-For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot perform it. [I have the intention and urge to do what is right, but no power to carry it out.] (AMP).

However, if we know Jesus as our personal Saviour, that is, if we have asked him into our lives as Lord and Saviour, we have tremendous power available to us.

We have power from the Holy Spirit to help us witness to others. See Acts 1:8. That same powerful Spirit also gives us power to love, be calm, have a well-balanced, disciplined mind, and yes, even self-control. Check out 2 Timothy 1:7.

We have access to God’s powerful Word, the Bible. That’s in Hebrews 4:12. We can do even more than Jesus did and all we have to do is ask in his name (John 14:12-14).

Oh and one more thing? Our prayers can be powerful.

James 5:16-Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working] (AMP).

There’s more power available to us in Christ. Do we care to meet the criteria and avail ourselves of it?

Prayer: Lord, when we carry on as weaklings jolt us with a surge of your electricity. Remind us of who we are in Christ and the kind of power you offer to us. In Your name. Amen.
