Emotional Messes

We all fall into the morass of emotions, but you can track their triggers and work towards wellness.

First- consider what event or issue triggered that emotion?

Second- What were your basic thoughts. What fears or memories came up?

Third-What can you do instead of the old familiar mess?

Fourth- What is the consequence that occurred?

Here is an example from my past.

  • I was having a good day with family. Then I thought about how I missed Ron at that gathering.
  • I started to eat to avoid feeling the pain of loss.
  • I failed here. I should have changed my thoughts but I wallowed.
  • The result was a binge on food that I didn’t like but that was available.

Friends, I know better now and most of the time perform better. It does take time and effort but we can choose the better or even the best, instead of staying where we are.

And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:3, NIV)
