Fake Visits

The local nursing home requires all who enter to sign in and out. As I filled out the ledger, I noticed that the gal I was going to see had already had a visitor that day, sort of. Her daughter signed in at 3:15 and signed out at 3:20. How long is a visit anyway? I call that five minute drop-in a fake visit.

The dictionary says a visit is an act of affection or friendship, a social call, a trip to see somebody and spend time in their company.

I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ (Matthew 25:36, NIV)

Technically, a nursing home is not a prison but it is a place that is difficult to get out of. People there are often neglected and forgotten.

Prayer – Lord, help us be kinder to others, just because you said so. Amen
