Fisherman’s Blessing

The disciple, Andrew is the patron saint of fishermen. He and his brother Simon were fishermen and they were Christ’s first disciples. Possibly Christ thought their experience might be useful!

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.  “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” (Matthew 4:18-19, NIV)

These lines might seem silly to some of us, but to a fisherman, they are a blessing!

I pray you don’t CARP all day and that you PERCH in comfort, resting from CRAPPIE stuff like lawn mowing and snow shoveling.

Please FLOUNDER in the tub to your heart’s content.

Let your complaints CLAM up until tomorrow. By then you will forget to CRAB about them.

I will fill your dinner PLAICE with LOBSTER dipped in BUTTERFISH.

Let no one muss your MULLET today. I will babysit the SHRIMPS so that they behave quietly.  Most of all, please keep your SOLE close to God.
