Flip a Coin Day

Happy Flip a Coin Day, friends! Yes, there is such a thing. Two opposing teams or enemies or whatever, take a coin and flip it. As it falls, the flippers call out heads or maybe tails. The coin lands and the side landing up, decides what’s what.

Yes, real people still do this. A flip of a coin decides the fate of the hockey game, ownership or sometimes even war. It is said to have begun with the Romans in the 7th century.

The trouble is, the odds aren’t 50/50. They are more like 51/49, depending what side was up at the beginning of the spin!

I doubt this article will change the practice, but I can tell you this for sure. It’s not the way to get Bible advice. You know what I mean. A random flipping of the pages and sticking your finger on a verse.

One lady did this and found herself at Matthew 27:5. “Judas departed and hanged himself”.

She didn’t like that verse so stabbed her Bible again and this time got Luke 10:37b.

“Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

Thankfully, she did neither. Bible advice is not a wild stab in the dark. It’s reading the whole book and knowing the heart of God, praying for direction and depending on it.
