Do I think like Christ?
Since Jesus went through everything you’re going through and more, learn to think like him. Think of your sufferings as a weaning from that old sinful habit of always expecting to get your own way. Then you’ll be able to live out your days free to pursue what God wants instead of being tyrannized by what you want. (1 Peter 4:1-2, MSG)
Try reading it this way.
Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body,
(A) Arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin.
(B) As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires,
(C) but rather for the will of God. (1 Peter 4:1-2, NIV)
Or this way.
So, since Christ suffered in the flesh for us, for you, arm yourselves with the same thought and purpose [patiently to suffer rather than fail to please God]. For whoever has suffered in the flesh [having the mind of Christ] is done with [intentional] sin [has stopped pleasing himself and the world, and pleases God];
So that he can no longer spend the rest of his natural life living by [his] human appetites and desires; but [he lives] for what God wills. (1 Peter 4:1-2, AMP)
Do you get it?
Prayer- Lord when we don’t understand what you say; make it clear to us through the different translations we have. Most of all; help us get it…really get it. Amen.
