Godly Christians

The week before Maybeth Gray’s husband died, a motorist stopped at their house and asked if he might have some water for his car. Of course they gave him some.

Then Ken died. Shortly after that, the motorist returned and gave her a bottle of wine as a thank you gift.

‘Who gives water for wine?’ she wondered. Then she opened her Bible at John 2:9 and read these words.

John 2:9, 10- and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”(NIV).

That scripture showed up on my reading schedule today. The words that spoke to Maybeth Gray decades ago speak to me.  ‘You have saved the best till now.’

I expect Maybeth asked the same question that I ask.  How can the best include the death of my husband?

I watched Maybeth live a godly, obedient, joy-filled life without her darling Ken. Because she did, I know I can. Like Maybeth, I trust that God saved the best till now.

May this be true of each of us.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the example of Godly Christians. May we know them, be like them and raise them. In Christ’s name. Amen.
