Hallelujah! He Is Here With Us

As a young girl and now as a mom, I’ve always wondered what Mary thought when she was told that she would give birth to the Son of God.

Why me? That would be my first thought. Why me?

I can’t began to fathom what it would be like to be a young girl of 12 or 13 years old, who was about to be married. Then an angel tells her that she will give birth to the Son of God. I’m pretty sure I would have thought, “ I’ve gone insane. That’s it. I’m sick and I’m going crazy.”

But that’s not the way it happened for Mary. She knew she had never been with a man. The angel spoke not only to her but to Joseph as well. This was really going to happen and it was going to be OK.
God provided for each and every step of the way to secure their well-being, their safety and to fulfill prophecy.
“All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). Matthew 1:22 (NIV)

When the blessed night came, can you imagine what Mary thought as she gazed upon this tiny infant? This was the face of God. These were the hands of God. How can this be? What awe and wonder must have filled her heart.

Years later, Jesus would explain this to Phillip.

Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.” John 14:8-11 (NIV)

“I and the Father are one.” John 10:30 (NIV)

Jesus is God’s Son and Jesus is God. Hallelujah. He is alive and He is here with us and He dwells with us and in the hearts of all of us who receive Him, forever and ever. Amen
