Heads or Tails?

Which team will kick off?  Flip the coin.  Who is going to be first?  Flip the coin.  Should I go right or left?  Flip the coin.  Heads or Tails.  Which one will it be?

The Israelites had a decision to make.  They were on the brink of entering the promised land and God gave them a choice:  Do you want to be heads or tails?

The Lord will make you the head, not the tail.  If you pay attention to the commands of the Lord your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.–Deuteronomy 28:13

If the Israelites chose to be the head by obeying all God's commands completely, then God promised  He would send a blessing upon the people and all that they owned.  The Lord promised to establish them as His holy people.  “Then all the peoples on the earth will see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they will fear you.” (Deut. 28:10)  He promised to send rain on their land in season and to bless all the work of their hands.  They would be blessed!

But there was another choice.  If the Israelites did not obey the Lord and follow all His commands, then curses would come upon them.

The alien who lives among you will rise above you higher and higher, but you will sink lower and lower.  He will lend to you, but you will not lend to him.  He will be the head, but you will be the tail.–Deuteronomy 28:43-44

If the Israelites chose to be the tail, then God said He would send curses, confusion and rebuke in everything they put their hands to.  He said they would be plagued with diseases.  The Lord would turn the rain into dust and powder.  They would be defeated before their enemies. “You will sow much seed in the field but you will harvest little, because locusts will devour it.” (Deut. 28:38)  Swarms of locusts would take over all their trees and the crops of their land.

We have this same choice before us today.  Will we serve God and completely obey all His commands?  Or will we turn away and worship other gods (things)?

Will you be a head or tail?
