Idle Worship

I could have spelled it idol worship, but the truth is that we are simply idle about our idols.

Our idol is anything we worship more than God. We fear it more than God and we serve it more than God.

Let me explain. We anticipate the upcoming season of ___________. We wouldn’t miss it for love nor money, not even for our two-year-old that wants to sit on our knee during the X-rated display. We love our TV show idol more than our innocent child and God’s ask of clean living.

Or we love chocolate and we won’t give it up, even for Lent, because we love our chocolate idol more than God.

We speed, because we consider signs are for other folk. We have an accident and maybe even kill some one with our car because we love our speed idol more than God and others.

Your idols might be a little different but they are still your idols.

Or what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, “I will dwell among them and walk among them; And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

(2 Corinthians 6:16, NASB)
