Kissing Who

Yesterday’s study left me with questions.

Yet I will leave myself 7,000 in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him. (From 1 Kings 19:13b-18, AMP)

Did people go around kissing Baal? Was there a line-up to worship him in this way? What on earth does that phrase mean?

Soon the way of finding out, I first checked the dictionary definition of kissing. This is what showed up.

-To touch somebody/ something with the lips, either gently or passionately. (Encarta Dictionary)

– To salute with the lips, as a mark of affection, reverence, submission, forgiveness. (Webster)

Is this an actual kiss or is God saying, they saluted with their lips as in speaking of it?

It seems we must ask ourselves what we kiss that is not godly.

This is food for thought.

Kiss the Son [pay homage to Him in purity], lest He be angry and you perish in the way, for soon shall His wrath be kindled. O blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are all those who seek refuge and put their trust in Him! (Psalm 2:12, AMP)

Prayer- Lord we give you our hearts and minds and mouths and honor you all of our days. Amen.
