Leading Lives

What if no one ever given them a ride to synagogue, or took them to youth group or just insisted that they show up for service? What if no one had ever been Jesus ‘with skin on’ for them…until they found the Real One for themselves?

I doubt that Andrew, Nathaniel, Philip or Peter (especially Peter!) were any different than most children. They were probably nuisance toddlers and teenagers that parents wanted to leave at home because they made smart-aleck comments all the way through the service. However someone started them on the right road so that when their eyes opened to Jesus, they had some background knowledge.

John 2:17-His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me (NIV).”

How else did the disciples know about Psalm 69:9?  For zeal for your house consumes me and the insults of those who insult you fall on me (NIV).

And that bit of knowledge helped them.

John 2:22- After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken (NIV).

Today’s generation is harder to reach because of their limited Bible background. If each of us starts somewhere, with someone, the next generation will not be unreachable for Christ. Never discount the smallest effort on Christ’s behalf.

Prayer: Lord, give us a vision of what even the smallest action does for your kingdom. Amen.
