Measure First

I was delighted when my friend offered me her TV/VCR combo, because mine had died.
Then, she put it in my car. Oh dear. I couldn’t even lift it! It filled the back seat and was way too big for my tiny house.

Oh dear. I found myself in the same predicament as the new house guy in Luke 14, except my problem read like this: Is Brenda planning to add a new TV to her house? Did she measure first? Why not?

“Is there anyone here who, planning to build a new house, doesn’t first sit down and figure the cost so you’ll know if you can complete it? If you only get the foundation laid and then run out of money, you’re going to look pretty foolish. Everyone passing by will poke fun at you: ‘He started something he couldn’t finish.’ (Luke 14:28-30, MSG)

I didn’t run out of money, but I ran out of space because I didn’t measure first. What kind of messes are you in because you didn’t count the cost?

Prayer – Lord, we beg you to help us use common sense and think first! Amen.
