Certain days groove into your brain, don’t they? Christmas and New Year's are easy. They happen at the same time every year. Easter keeps moving so while we remember the occasion, we have to check the calendar every year to pin point the actual date. My mom, my dad and my sister have been dead for a long time but I still remember their birthdays.
Today, March 22, was Ron’s birthday. By now he’d have opened his presents. I’d be baking a chocolate cake, or maybe topping a Mile-High Lemon Pie with candles. I’m so glad for so many memories of our happy times together.
Memory is the ability of the mind to retain learned information and knowledge of past events and experiences and to retrieve that information and knowledge.
I’m marking this day with quiet retrospection, journaling my thoughts and maybe even cooking Ron’s special favorites or going out for an Afi burger. (Ron’s favorite #2 Wendy’s hamburger) I think God would approve. After all, even Jesus planned for memories.
When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” (Matthew 26:12-13, NIV)
Prayer: God, may our hearts remember our loved ones with your love. In Christ. Amen.
