Mirror Daze

Do the latest newscasts or magazine articles leave you dizzy? Me too! These thoughts speed through my mind in the few seconds before I even look in a mirror.

Egads!  Why on earth did I buy this outfit? It doesn’t fit properly…oh wait, I’m not dressed yet! Does this dress need shoulder pads to make my hips look smaller? The fashion magazines insist that works. According to them, I am a complete failure! I am supposed to be the normal weight for my height. (Oops!)

My hips dare not be more than two inches bigger than my bust. My waist must be ten inches smaller than those hips! (Is that possible?)   Did you know that our thighs definitely must be six inches less than that teeny waist? (Groan! Sigh!)

Even my ankles fail, for they must be four to five inches smaller than my calves. This is quite ridiculous because fat ankles run in our family.

It is possible that you (especially if you are male!) did not pass this test. As the world measures, we always look like failures because the world sets impossible standards.

Never fear! God is more concerned with our inner person. What a relief!

But the Lord said to Samuel, the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7b)

His most fervent desire is that our heart be right with him.

Prayer – Lord God, we give you all of our heart. Every corner, with thanks. Amen
