Did you know that Moses (and Joshua) weren’t hanging out with God all by themselves?
He said to Moses, “Climb the mountain to God, you and Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel. They will worship from a distance; only Moses will approach God. The rest are not to come close. And the people are not to climb the mountain at all.”(Exodus 24:1-2, MSG)
Then they climbed the mountain—Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel—and saw the God of Israel. (Exodus 24:9, MSG)
THEY ALL SAW GOD! Then they went right down the mountain into worry and unbelief and building an idol in the shape of a calf…( Exodus 32) And all of it was sin.
And did you know that Nadab and Abihu are Aaron’s sons and Moses’ nephews? (Exodus 23) Or that Aaron and his four sons were to serve as priests? (Exodus 28:1-5) Or that Nadab and Abihu later fell dead in the presence of God because of their disobedience? (Numbers 3:2-4)
I guess the lesson is this.
Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. (2 Peter 3:17, NIV)
Prayer – God, help us never be one of those who fall into disobedience and away from you. Amen
