Philippians 3:7, 8–The very credentials these people are waving around as something special, I’m tearing up and throwing out with the trash—along with everything else I used to take credit for. And why? Because of Christ. Yes, all the things I once thought were so important are gone from my life. Compared to the high privilege of knowing Christ Jesus as my Master firsthand, everything I once thought I had going for me is insignificant dog dung. (MSG)
The little bird spent much of the morning tugging on a string that was attached to our neighbor’s air conditioner. When he finally gave up, the string was still in the same place and birdie looked exhausted. Surely he would spend the evening telling Mrs. Robin about the ‘big one’that got away.
So like us, I thought. Hauling away hopelessly on the ties of life that in the long run bring none of the satisfaction we hope for. Those who don’t know Jesus as their personal Saviour don’t know what else to do. But we who have asked Him into our lives know better. Why then, do we still keep chasing after the not useful, the not lasting, the not worthy?
Prayer: Father, forgive us for chasing after the things of the world with wild abandon when all that really matters is knowing Jesus and the power of His resurrection. Amen.
