Remembering On

It’s almost 20 years since my parotid cancer diagnosis and surgery, but this memory lingers large in my mind.

There we all were, in the middle of the work week, laughing, talking and enjoying the good news! It wasn’t even a holiday, but we were having a party. The doctor’s office had pronounced me to be cancer free!

Mom and Dad were so happy and excited that they brought down a bucket of fast-food chicken with all the fixings. Other friends came to help us celebrate. When we hear good news, we have a party and pass it on.

God enjoys Good News too. In fact he wrote an entire book about it. The people who need to hear it suffer from a disease far worse than mine. They are separated from God. He sent His Son, Jesus to die for the sins of the world. That Jesus rose from the dead and is alive right now!

Prayer- Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite you to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior.

Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country. (Proverbs 25:25, NRSV)

Prayer – Lord, don’t let us ever keep the Good News of Jesus Christ to ourselves. Help us by word and deed to shout it from the rooftops to those who need to hear it! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
