Royals

Did the Royal wedding of 2011 excite you or even intrigue you a little bit? I’ve just come across an old crochet pattern from my granny’s stash called “Coronation Edging”. The crown design worked into the stitches clearly says royal.  I expect she clipped it out in the days of King George the sixth or maybe even earlier. Royal admiration is not a new thing.

The Bible speaks of royal houses, royal tents, royal escorts and royal robes. It mentions royal thrones, royal law and royal authority. It even tells of royal winepresses, royal families, royal princes and royal treasures.

However, the royal mention I like best is found in 1 Peter 2:9–But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light (NIV).

Most of us will not marry an earthly royal or have access to their royal palace but we can be royal in the best sense ever.

All we have to do is ask Jesus into our life. That makes us more royal than we can imagine. Then, since we are royals we might want to start living like one and keep the royal law.

If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right (James 2:8)

Prayer: Lord, forgive us for living a common life when you clearly call us to live like the royal priesthood we are.
