Start with a big container, because if you don’t, stuff goes all over the place. If necessary, transfer the mix to a fancy serving bowl later.
Start with bite-sized pieces of leafy greens like iceberg lettuce, Romaine, spinach, kale or a mixture of said greens.
Now add some protein, according to your personal taste. Chicken, beef, deli meats, tofu, cooked, diced egg or bacon bits. (or a mixture of all of them!)
You will need fillers; non-starchy veggies like cucumber, onion, tomato, and celery. Go wild with ideas. Add some starch with croutons, cooked potatoes, quinoa, rice or beans.
Now, horrors! Add some fat! No, not a stick of butter, but yes, some almonds, walnuts, avocado, even salad dressing!
Now you have a salad with all the food groups…well except sugar and you can throw in some orange slices for that!
Our salad is like the church of God. Full of all kinds of bits, shaken and stirred together, ready to worship the one true God and his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
(John 17:3, NIV)
Lettuce by itself isn’t much. Come join us in the salad bowl, folks.
