2 Corinthians 2:15-16-As far as God is concerned there is a sweet, wholesome fragrance in our lives. It’s the fragrance of Christ within us, an aroma to both the saved and the unsaved around us. To those who are not being saved, we seem a fearful smell of death and gloom, while to those who know Christ we are a life-giving perfume (LB)
I ask at every drug store for my favourite, but hard-to-find cherry almond shampoo. Some clerks are kinder than others. One lady rolled her eyes. “We have mango, blueberry, watermelon and peach. Why does everybody want cherry almond? Why are you so fussy?”
Odors affect our well-being. Drive past a farmyard, abundant with outdoor life. Inhale the scent of a freshly bathed and powdered baby. Add a dab of perfume or aftershave to your person. Use cherry almond shampoo. Do any of these affect our senses? Of course.
The Bible says we smell like Christ! Before I became a Christian, I remember being leery of this person or that. They were good people but they made me feel uncomfortable. Later, when I came to know Jesus for myself, they were the very folks I sought out. You see, by then, I smelled the same!
According to Paul, this perfume carrying is not as easy as it looks. Only those of integrity, sent by God, speaking with Christ’s power, under God’s watchful eye, are able to do it. Is the scent of Christ discernable in us today?
Prayer: Lord, what an amazing God you are! Lord, be so fragrant in us that others can sense your very presence. Amen.
