To most of the world, July 1 is just another day, but for Canadians it marks the day we officially became a country. At high noon, on July 1, 1867, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the Province of Canada (Ontario and Quebec), became the Dominion of Canada.
It took a while for the current Canada, which includes10 provinces and 3 territories, to take shape. Dates of entry range from 1870 to 1999. Still, here we are.
I expect Sir John A MacDonald, our first prime Minister, would be excessively happy to see the results of his small beginnings.
As the Bible says, who [with reason] despises the day of small things? (Zechariah 4:10a, AMP)
So whether it is the first pound lost on the long road to 75 pounds, or the first step baby takes on his own, or the first uncertain day at a new job, let’s not lose sight of the fact that big things come from small beginnings and take heart.
Prayer- Lord, give us the courage to keep on. After all, even Christ started small. Amen.
