Ten Commandments Then & Now – Part One

THEN-And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.  Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:1-3, KJV)

NOW- Unless they are more fun then you are God. I like some of the new things I worship. They lead me in paths I want to go and let me spend my time as I wish.

THEN- Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. (Exodus 20:7, KJV)

NOW- Well, God everyone uses the F word or God damn now and then. It’s pretty common and so I speak like the friends I choose. In doing so I accept that that makes me common too. Now I am refusing to live like the royal child of the King that I am.

THEN- Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. (Exodus 20:8, KJV) But God, I do get to church on Christmas and Easter. The kids have hockey and there is a basket ball game on TV and the wife has to do the shopping…all right with you God? You understand, don’t you God?

THEN- Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. (Exodus 20:12, KJV)

NOW- Are you kidding me, God? Do you know what she did to me? OK I admit that she did her best but it wasn’t good enough for me! I deserved better.

Prayer- Lord, forgive us for translating your word into what we want. Amen.
