Far too often do we only reach out to God when we need or want something. “Lord, please help me pay my bills.”
As a child I remember praying for God to allow me to win my games. There is, of course, nothing wrong with asking for anything from God as Luke 1:19 says “”So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” However, prayer with God does now always need to be a 911 call, a 411 call is equally as welcomed.
Spending time with God is so important for spiritual health. We can't continue to live in the world, and expect to have a close relationship with Christ.
As we go about our lives we are constantly blessed. Did you eat today? Did you have a place to sleep? Thank God for what you have. Let Him know that you are his child, and witness his blessings in your life. Begin to thank Him for everything in your day. You will be so surprised at how long you can go on thanking Him for everything in your life. In my prayer journal, I like to list five things that I am thankful for every day. This also keeps me on alert throughout my day to see His blessings all around.
By remembering to both Thank God and let Him know your prayer needs, you will begin to see God's presence ever more clear in your life.
