Romans 12:2a– Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (NIV)
You can’t beat homemade dill pickles for flavour. Using fresh ingredients is a must and that includes the dill. I used to grow it so that all I had to do was to slip into the garden patch for a bunch or two. One thing I thoroughly disliked was finding one of those nasty yellowy-green caterpillars tucked among the fronds. Then I found out that those nasties were on their way to becoming graceful Swallowtail Butterflies. They live off dill or Queen Anne’s Lace plants, just as the Monarch Butterfly feeds off the milkweed plant.
Once we were one of those not so pretties. We lived off the grace of others while we found our wings in Christ. Someone was our dill, our Queen Anne’s Lace, our milkweed plant. They sheltered us through our insecure days as new Christians. They taught our Bible studies. They prayed for us. Should we be any less to those little caterpillars that are searching for their wings today?
Prayer: Lord, thanks for those who went before us, teaching us how to worship and serve you. Help us do the same for others. Amen.
