The Desolate Place

Mark 8:4aAnd His disciples replied to Him, How can anyone fill and satisfy [these people] with loaves of bread here in [this] desolate and uninhabited region? (AMP)

Well, at least there was a big crowd in their desolate space! And they had Jesus with them! How hard was that? In mine, there was only a small group of fellow travelers on a bus, climbing its way slowly through Israel’s bleak Judean Wilderness. Yes, I was smack dab in the middle of a wonderful trip to the Holy Land, but only confidence in our excellent driver kept me from screaming as we swung out over the steep, barren valleys.

Suddenly, miles ahead, I spotted a tiny smidge of colour. Gradually the smidge became a blotch and eventually the blotch became a camel, its owner and his ‘for sale’goods. We were not alone after all.

Your desert will differ from mine. Its name doesn’t matter. When we feel lost and abandoned in the midst of it, comfort lies in trusting our Driver and realizing that we are not alone.

Hebrews 13:5b[God Himself] has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, I [will not] in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let you down (relax my hold on you)! [Assuredly not!]. (AMP)

Prayer: Lord, thanks for giving us the opportunity to be passengers on your bus. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
