The Unexpected

Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every-thing, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (NIV)

“There are two yolks in these eggs! I ‘m on a diet. How many calories are in that? Will it make me fat? My cake recipe calls for one large egg. Do I have to throw half of this egg away?”

Double-yokers have taken a tumble at our local egg farm. (Pardon the pun!) The farmer used to sell them at a premium, but has had to lower the price because consumers, far removed from real country life, fear the unexpected, an egg with two yolks!

Why do we dread the unexpected and live our lives this way? Worry ourselves into a tizzy? In everything from double yolk eggs to major life crisis, ignore God completely. Wallow in misery. Never ask for His help. Live in chaos, feeling alone and abandoned. Keep peace just out of your reach.

Got a double-yolk? Use and enjoy it as you would any egg.

Let’s call the unexpected what it is, simply life, which has first passed through the hands of God, to us.

Prayer: Lord, we refuse to be anxious. We will not cry out “what to do, what to do!” Instead, we will give thanks. Amen.
