There Is Hope

Yesterday I learned the sad news that a beloved meteorologist on one of our local television stations took his own life.  Apparently he had suffered with depression for a long time.  This man seemed to be larger than life.  Not only was he a great meteorologist, but he was also very entertaining to watch.  He seemed to have a zest for life, always laughing, making jokes, and goofing around with his fellow morning show crew.

It was such a shock to find out that this man was really struggling on the inside, and it made me wonder how many people – people I know, people I go to church with, people I pass by at the store, people I talk to – how many other people are hurting and feeling the same way.  It makes me want to shout at the top of my lungs:

THERE IS HOPE!

Life is hard, I get that.  Money is tight, jobs are scarce, and everyday we hear of tragedies, like the story above, on the news.  There are natural disasters destroying homes and taking lives.  Life is hard.  But I want to remind you today that God is good!

Our hope doesn't come from anything in this world.  If we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, then we know this world is not our home.  Our confidence, our peace doesn't come from having enough money in the bank; our hope comes from the Lord.

I look up to the mountains— does my help come from there?

My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!–Psalm 121:1-2 (NLT)

O my God, I trust, lean on, rely on, and am confident in You.–Psalm 25:2 (AMP)

No matter what you are going through today, no matter how alone you may feel, God loves you and He is with you!

Even when I walk through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

Psalm 23:4

Do you know Jesus?  Do you have a personal, saving relationship with Him?  Cry out to God right now.  He wants to fill you with hope.

If you want to set your heart right, then pray to him.
Then your life will be brighter than the noonday sun.
The darkness in your life will become like morning.
You will feel confident because there's hope, and you will look around and rest in safety.

–Job 11:13, 17-18

This is my prayer for you all today:

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.–Romans 15:13
