Someone out of the crowd said, “Teacher, order my brother to give me a fair share of the family inheritance.” He replied, “Mister, what makes you think it’s any of my business to be a judge or mediator for you?”
We may be taller than two-year-olds but we sometimes still act like it!
This is the Toddlers Creed (according to me!)
If it’s in my hand, it’s mine. If I can take it from you, it’s mine. If I saw it first, it’s mine.
This childlike attitude is hard enough to deal with at child size but it is much worse when we hit adult size.
This is what Jesus told the family inheritance guy.
Speaking to the people, he went on, “Take care! Protect yourself against the least bit of greed. Life is not defined by what you have, even when you have a lot.” Luke 12:13-15, MSG)
Did you hear that? Jesus said protect your own self from G-R-E-E-D!
Greed means an overwhelming desire to have more of something than you actually need!
Well then…I guess I qualify and yes, I bet you do too.
Prayer- Father, forgive us for our wants and desires and show us how to be content with what you provide toward our need. Amen.
