United in Marriage

We are to be united in marriage.

Jesus said …In the original creation, God made male and female to be together. Because of this, a man leaves father and mother, and in marriage he becomes one flesh with a woman—no longer two individuals, but forming a new unity. (Mark 10:5-8, MSG)

LINDA
Her cane, slightly worn
covered with butterflies
dangles from an outstretched hand.
Her steps, not as steady,
slower than when a girl
still carry her unerringly
to her favorite spot
in all the world,
my open arms.
There, her heart pressed
against mine
time is measured by the
slow steady beat
of two souls
crafted into one.

I bet Linda’s heart melted when she heard these words. Maybe you can’t write poetry like Earl, but you can still tell your spouse that you love them.

But remember the root command: Love one another; (John 15:17, MSG) or as the world puts it…Happy wife, happy life.

Prayer-Father, we vow to forget petty differences and instead choose to love. Amen.
