Visiting the Tomb

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. (Matthew 28:1, NIV)

Why do we do that? Why do we visit the tombs of our loved ones? It’s the last place we saw them, that’s why.

A funeral director friend tells me that since the new trend is not to have a proper funeral, or even a burial, the loved ones now hang out at the funeral home. Because there was no funeral or a proper burial, they go to the last place they saw their loved ones.

Would you believe that some families are even ignoring ‘Granny’s’ last wishes by demanding the cheapest burial possible and a return of any money that ‘Granny’ paid toward her final resting arrangements?

I guess they haven’t read this verse.

“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. (Exodus 20:12, NIV)

Prayer – Father, shame on us for valuing money over our parents and loved ones and their final wishes. Shame on us. Amen
