Walk In The Light

This year, my church choir is doing a presentation of Jason Crabb's music The Star Still Shines published by WORD Music. It's really going to be an awesome event. When it was first introduced to us, it took a little getting used to. It's Southern Gospel. There's nothing wrong with Southern Gospel. It's just I wasn't used to performing Southern Gospel in a traditional church setting, and  here we were doing a whole Christmas musical of Southern Gospel.

However, one of the key traits of Southern Gospel is that each song tells a story. Most of the songs are testimonials about what God has done in a person's life, or what He can do when we let Him. One of the songs we'll be performing in the musical is a song titled “Jesus The Light Of The World” written by Ken Bible and George D. Elderkin. It's a deep, soulful Gospel song with a very simple but powerful message: Walk in the light.

“Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'.” (John 14:6) (NIV)

“Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, LORD.” (Psalm 89:15) (NIV)

“Come, descendants of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the LORD.” (Isaiah 2:5) (NIV)

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7)

Are you walking in the light? Is Jesus the Lord and Savior of your life?

This holiday season as you gaze at the beautiful lights that decorate homes and trees, may you be reminded of the the True Light, Jesus.  Begin this year, making Jesus your Reason for the Season. Bring Jesus into the center of all you do.
