Golf legend, Arnold Palmer, said, “Golf is a game of inches. The most important are the six inches between your ears.
I think he means that what you are thinking and believing is very important to how you play the game. The same is also true of how we live our lives.
Numbers 13 tells the sad tale of folks who couldn’t get past that six inches from what they knew in their heads to what they needed to believe with their heart.
Moses sent them to check out the Promised Land, and they brought back some great produce.
They cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and figs (Numbers 13:23b, NIV) They also brought back bad reports.
They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful and the cities are fortified and very large. “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.”
(Numbers 13:27, 28, 31, NIV)
What do you say or do when God calls you to travel those few inches in your life? Hopefully you are more like Caleb than the doubters above.
Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”(Numbers 13:30, NIV)
Prayer- Lord, Lord, even now there is something you are asking us to believe and we doubt you. Forgive us, Lord and help us travel that bit more! Amen.
