When the Cheese Melts

Did you ever play The Farmer in the Dell? We children gathered in a circle while one stood in the middle playing ‘farmer’. We’d sing the tune while the farmer chose ‘a wife’ from the ring of children, then the wife chose a child and so it went right through nurse, cow, dog, cat, and rat. When the rat chose the cheese, the lyrics changed. The cheese ended up ‘standing alone.’

Is that you? Do you feel that everyone has a mate but you? (Me too!) I feel like wobbly cheese when I have to attend functions that are mostly for couples.

Cheese has poor standing abilities at the best of times, but if you melt it, it gets down right wobbly. That’s how my knees feel in those situations, but I’ve found a cure. I trust God to sandwich me in the Bread of Life and I persevere. You can too.

Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life. The person who aligns with me hungers no more and thirsts no more, ever.

I have told you this explicitly because even though you have seen me in action, you don’t really believe me.

Every person the Father gives me eventually comes running to me. And once that person is with me, I hold on and don’t let go. I came down from heaven not to follow my own whim but to accomplish the will of the One who sent me. (John 6:35-38, MSG)

Prayer – Lord, thank you for strength beyond our own. Amen
