Why Write?

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. (1 John 2:1)

Since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. (Luke 1:3b-4, NIV)

Is that so different from Ken Taylor, who created The Living Bible so his family could understand the Word of God? Or Eugene Peterson who wanted to impact both those who hadn’t read the Bible and those who were long tired of its message?

Does God care what version we read? I don’t think so. As Jesus said…

My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message. (John 17:20, NIV)

After all, isn’t this our common goal?

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. (1John 5:13, NIV)

Prayer- Lord, may we spend less time attacking one another and more time finding out what you have to say. Amen.
