Jesus gave his beatitude message and afterwards he was besieged with questions from those he trusted the most.
James and John argued about who understood the most. Nathaniel whined about having to make notes. Judas was angry because they hadn’t taken up a collection. The Pharisees and Sadducees demanded to see his lesson plan. On and on it went.
Of course, this is supposition on my part, but probably not that far-fetched. How do I know this? I know this because they were human just as we are human.
We put our thoughts and actions and mindset ahead of what God says to us. We claim verses like this but ignore the fact that we have to step into that future.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)
We read verses like this and say…I can seek and find the Lord, forgetting that we must be doing that with our whole heart.
You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13)
We are worried and anxious, forgetting that God says…
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
How will we react to the Lord, when he speaks to us?
